How to Ruin a Nation

Zimbabwe, once called Rhodesia, was colonized by Great Britain in the late 1880's and claimed independence in 1965. As an ex-colony, whites made up less than 1% of the population but held 70% of the country's commercially viable farmland, of which 80% had been purchased legally since independence was recognized in 1980. However whites held no political power, so there was a land grab. "Land redistribution" from whites emerged as a political issue beginning in the late 1990's. Robert Mugabe (yea, he looks a tad Hitlerish), president of Zimbabwe, Zimbabwe African Nation Union (ZANU) candidate, made these 'land redistributions' a central issue of his leadership. The problem, which Mugabe didn't foresee, was Zibabwe's 'means of production'. The farmers, doctors, dentists, engineers and anything that required education or skills were white. So..when Mugabe's thugs (gangs of toothless HIV infected yuck) 'regained' farmlands and ranches, the whites left. So who was supposed to run the machines, labs, offices, farms, ranches and the like? Well...appearently no one thought that far ahead, including Mugabe. Zimbabwe used to be a net exporter of food to the surrounding areas of Africa and Europe, now its citizens are starving. Currently the reclaimed farms are left fallow, equipment is broken down, there is a 600% rate of inflation (2003) and they have the world's highest rate of HIV infections, so Mugabe is looking for a scapegoat. The usual suspects were chosen; liers, Europe and the United States. Zimbabwe is broke, IMF loans are coming due, no nation want's to deal with this guy, not even China. To illustrate how stupid Mugabe is one needs to look no further than his devlopment of the 'Obesity Tourism Strategy'. Mugabe want's fat tourists to work on the farms, seized by white farmers, for free (of course) so that they may 'shed the pounds away'. Only a fucking moron socialist/marxist could have thought of this. Look this up..http://www.timesonline.co.uk/article/0,,2089-1378517,00.html

Many of Africa's problems aren't imported.. they are homegrown. Problems seem to be the only thing being grown and harvested in Zimbabwe.
